Elf Queen book 3 Weekly Update | 1/1

Hello! It’s JM! So I thought it would be fun for you to come along with my progress on Fate Calls the Elf Queen, book 3 in the Elf Queen series every week. Especially since I don’t have a release date set yet and I left you dangling on a massive cliff. 

Anyway, I still expect it to be ready to release in late spring/ early summer.

I took some time off for the holidays, and sickness (my kids got the flu for a week then I got sick a week after) but I am back on with my usual writing routine so things will go much faster from here on out.

As of 1/1/23 I am on chapter 12 and 26k words in! Which is probably only about 10% done with the first draft. I anticipate this to be well over 100k. Both Elf Queen books have been around the 130-140k word mark, and I expect this one to be longer. This book is weaving 2 stories, the past lives as gods of Runevale of Hel, Valeen(Layala) and War(Thane), and the current time in Palenor with Layala, Thane, and Hel. I’ve based the gods and realms loosely off Norse mythology, so you’ll see the inspirations taken from it but also many differences.

I’m having so much fun with this book, especially with writing a villain who isn’t simply a villain out to get Laya and Thane. Hel and the backstory is much more complex than that. Characters like him are fun to write— you never know what they might do. 

Anyway, I’ve been wanting to do some merch for you all but I’m not sure where to start. What are you most interested in?
